Nick and Louis challenge!

Our adventure starts on March 10th as we head off from Highcliffe Castle following the coastline heading west into Dorset and beyond.

Our estimation was based on the expected distance of the King Charles 3rd coastal footpath of 2795 miles when fully open. Plus 84 miles of Hadrian's Wall to cross from West coast to East. Unfortunately we had to abandon the Hadrian's Wall crossing due to injury (we plan to return and complete this in the spring next year).

Our original estimate of 3000 miles to complete our adventure has required recalculation as we have progressed as some areas have closures or no coastal path with inland diversions along A-roads which we have avoided.

Our first plan considered a daily average distance of 13 miles and a journey time of approximately 7 months. With a reduced distance and a higher daily average mileage we think, on current estimate that our journey will take us 6 months.

Staying in Hotels, Pubs, B&Bs, AirBnB and the odd night with friends and family the entire trip is completely self funded.

Lisa's story

In England more than 70 out of 100 women (more than 70%) will survive their Ovarian Cancer diagnosis for 1 year or more after they are diagnosed.

This means that 30% do not! Lisa sadly passed away in the summer of 2023 after living with her cancer for 8 years – she felt that she was one of the lucky ones! Her diagnosis and condition never defined her where she lived the fullest life possible following her surgery and continued treatment.

Back in 2015 the outlook was given as a 3–5-year life expectancy so every day was a blessing that needed to be approached head on with positivity...

Louis Story

As a puppy in France, I was encouraged to chase all sorts of things – especially birds. As I grew, I was not able to keep my owner happy as I didn’t really understand what he wanted me to do. He got angry, lost patience, and kept me chained up for 2 years.

I was let go in a place I didn’t recognise and did not know how to get home. I was picked up by a stranger and taken to somewhere called a rescue centre where after a while a very kind family took me home where I had a great time playing with their other dogs.

It was only supposed to be temporary, but I was with them for 6 months and then on one fateful day in September 2022...

Women don’t deserve better they deserve the best.

Ovarian Cancer Action are a charity dedicated to improving ovarian cancer survival rates. Help them make ovarian cancer a survivable disease for all women.

Cancer doesn’t wait in line.

Shockingly only 1 in 10 women know the main symptoms of ovarian cancer - stomach pain, bloating, loss of appetite and frequent weeing are all symptoms of ovarian cancer. If you’re experiencing anything unusual your doctor wants to see you.

Early diagnosis Is vital

If a women’s ovarian cancer is diagnosed at stage 1 she has a 90% chance of surviving for five years or more but at stage 4 survival rate is as low as 4%. Early diagnosis saves lives.

OCA are funding research

Research that focuses on prevention, early detection and treatment of ovarian cancer because improvements in each of these three areas will transform how long and how well women will live. Click here (Our research projects | Ovarian Cancer Action)
